Card of the Day - The Lovers

The arrival of this card in any reading usually sparks much interest and excitement, and with good reason.


To me, this card fairly shouts out all the emotional possibilities that surround the area of human love and relationships, from the spiritual, to the carnal, and everything in between!


At first glance, we have all the markings of a passionate and possibly new relationship. The perfect couple, with perfectly sculpted bodies, possibly representing our secret ideals. He is decidedly masculine and she is the epitome of all that is feminine.


They are surrounded by the element of water, representing our emotions and they both appear to be basking in the golden afterglow of their passion, the dolphins represent the playful nature often associated with new relationships.


But, that is not all this card has to offer us, and much depends upon the other cards drawn for any particular reading. Quite often, The Lovers can represent choices. Whether that is a change of partner or the strengthening of an existing relationship by moving on to the next level and making a more solid commitment, remains to be seen.

In general, The Lovers is considered to be a positive card, unless poorly aspected by accompanying cards.

For example: If this card presented in a reversed position, and all other cards were positive, I may consider that the relationship has an element of control by one partner over the other, but that it is at an acceptable level for the one being controlled.

If, on the other hand, there were more negative cards than positive within the spread, it may indicate an unhealthy relationship, or that one partner is refusing to let the other go.

As with all Tarot readings, the cards are open to many, many interpretations and are there as a guide. Giving you possible outcomes, but you are still free to make your own choices, which may set you on a different path to the one indicated at the time of reading.
